about

Composer Kian Ravaei releases On the Road, a folk-inspired suite for the distinctive combination of reed quintet and acoustic guitar. Performing alongside Reedplay Quintet, Ravaei makes his debut as a guitarist, infusing the piece with a rustic, twangy sound.

The EP arrives sixty-six years after the publication of Jack Kerouac’s landmark novel On the Road, which portrayed the American road trip as a journey of self-discovery. Ravaei drew inspiration from the book as well as his own experiences traversing the United States.

“I tried to evoke the feeling of driving along the highway by maintaining the same tempo for the whole piece,” said Ravaei. “Except for the ending—I couldn’t help but speed toward the finish line.”
